I am experimenting with the notion of clay-mation type figures which I then photograph with a digital camera. Bring the photo into Studio and then trace it.

Simple and fast to do various poses with simple figures. Move points for dramatic fore-shortened shots.

Is anyone else using this technique?

I think it's a very good solution for non-artists, but isn't it too time-consuming? And I guess being able to draw you can create more various images and characters, so it gives you more possibilities.

One of the Asian studios made a film by photographing their clay figures, then attaching those directly to bones and switch layers. Very nice effect which didn't look like a ASP project.

Hehe, yes.
Rocky53204, as animation is an art, even if you don't draw the characters on a paper or on the screen, you will need talent and hard work to make them look alive.
