When imported PSDs go bad

OK , used to use the gimp to anme script , worked fine.
The new feature promises imported PSDs, all fine but when the link breaks they cannot be relink as they come in as a bone layer which does not include the image directory to relink as a image layer does.
Is this just a bug that makes the new feature worthless?
I am working with large image files and need to work as a team over a network in collaboration.
I'd love to know if anyone can make his reliable or I will go back to the reliable gimp method, any clues?
