The Case of the Disappearing Actions Window

Having just upgraded from AS Pro 8.0.1 to 8.2, I was surprised to find that my Actions Window had disappeared. This had happened before on my original 8.0 version and was only solved when I changed the screen resolution from the recommended 1920 x 1080 to 1280 x 720. The change made pretty lousy viewing so I quickly changed back. However, it solved my problem and the Actions Window put in an appearance at the bottom of the screen. I dragged it up into position and there it has been since day one - until I upgraded to 8.2 that is ! Exactly the sane problem - no Action Window. So, I followed the same procedure and behold - the window has returned. I hesitate to ask why when I already seem to have found an inexplicable solution.
I wish I could say the same about saved characters in the Character Wizard - that have all been wiped out.

Hey Pete, I'm on PC here's the path to my presets. I have still have my presets for 8.0,8.0.1,8.1, and 8.2. Maybe look at my path and you can figure out where they are at on your system.
C:\Users\johnbo\AppData\Roaming\Smith Micro\Anime Studio Pro\8.1\Character Wizard Presets

Sorry jonbo - no such file or folder exists. Just a Character Wizard folder.
Smith Micro\Anime Studio Pro 8\Character Wizard.

You are not looking at the full path, the presets are stored in another place not in the AS application folder. Try this, create a CW preset with a unique name then do a search of this name in your hdd to find where its stored.
Path to application
C:\Program Files (x86)\Smith Micro\Anime Studio Pro 8\Character Wizard
Path to preset
C:\Users\johnbo\AppData\Roaming\Smith Micro\Anime Studio Pro\8.1\Character Wizard Presets

Still no dice jonbo. That is not to say the character isn't there - it's just that I can't find it. I created the unique character okay but a search did not find it. I am using Windows 7 which may or may not be significant. The fact is that a search does not reveal ANY file in the Program Files (x86) folder or sub folders. Whether this is to hide important files away from hamfisted users like myself or not I can't say. Maybe there's a setting somewhere which will allow such searches ????
Having done further checks I would guess that the search only allows me to search down through my own Users folder.
PS - I'm not getting email notification of replies otherwise I would have picked your last post earlier.

Hey Pete, I'm on WIN7 too. A search in program file(x86) won't find the character because its not stored in that file. If you look at the path to the preset I posted above, change johnbo to the profile name you use in that path, it should take you to the presets.

If I could include a screen shot as you have done it might explain my situation better. In the meantime, words will have to do. Everything I have relating to Anime is found in the Program (x86) folder. This includes the Character Wizard. The only Anime files outside this folder and residing in my User folder are specific Anime projects. eg: Users/Peter/My Documents/My Anime/(name of project).
In your case, in the screenshot shown, the question I have is whether everything after Users/jonbo/ includes the Anime programs and subfolders and whether Character Presets is a folder that you have created, or is a Smith Micro default creation. No such folder exists on my HDD as far as I can tell, so when I create a unique character, where is the information being held?

Hey Pete. To answer your question, AS created this folder, not me. To find it, I created and saved a character preset, then I did a search of the entire C drive. You could try that, you only searched the program file(x86) last time or try putting in this line exactly:
C:\Users\Peter\AppData\Roaming\Smith Micro\Anime Studio Pro\8.1\Character Wizard Presets
Other questions, are you the only one on the computer? Are you the administrator?

Yes, I am the only one using the PC. AS only created folders within Program Files(x86).

STOP PRESS Minutes after I posted my last message - Ifound the presets. They were exactly where you said they'd be. They only revealed themselves after I changed the way I was searching for them following a look at the Windows help and support documentation. Thanks for you patience.
