When you start to create text, you can choose between it becoming a Text layer or a Vector layer.

Is there some way to convert a Text layer into a Vector layer after you've already created them?

OK, this method works. Maybe there is a quicker way.

1. Double click on the Text layer, go to the text tab.
This seems to set the Text layer with default settings that were used on this layer
2. Go to an empty Vector layer
3. Click T as if you were adding a new Text layer - but uncheck create new text layer box,
also you might want to uncheck create one shape.
4. Save it.
