Gradient direction/quality

HI all,
ASP 7
Linear gradients... when originally created, look like they should, but when I try to change the direction of the gradient using the Select Shape tool... and rotate the gradient a bit, it looks like hell... the transitions are blocky and... well, not very transition like at all... the gradient really isn't one anymore...
Why is this happening? Is there something I can do about it?
[EDIT] Apologies! I find that this is in the editor window only. When Previewed, the gradient looks good again. This must be for time-saving while in the editor.
