as you can see here the arm is below the chello

i can prove that with the layer order

but when i export my animation it comes up on front

i have enabled animation layer order so there should not be a problem and when i export i tick the layer effects
i am using anime studio pro 9 and this has never happened before...
any ideas on what this could be?

Can you post an image of the cello with its points? I think there might be a bad shape with the cello.

the cello is in it's own group and i move the group layer so no points are moved

That's not the point. The point is that sometimes shapes are created not correctly, especially when you did a lot of welding or adding and subtracting points. In this case the "shape" may look right in preview, but is seen as "illegal" during rendering, thus not correctly masking the body part below.

this is a picture of the chello layers and the mask (i know i complicated a lot but i thought i will need a bone layer at first... turns out i did not)

this is the cello with the mask

and with no mask
i imagined that this is what you wanted?
otherwise here is a link you can download the source file and take a look there
