Humbly introducing myself

Hello,

I'd like to make an introduction of myself.

I am a children's television producer since, well, about 15 years or so...

- but when it comes to animation I'm a total newbie, just starting out. :)
For a long time I have been interested in 2D animation and especially in finding ways to produce "good enough" stuff for broadcasting purposes
a) quickly and b) on limited budget. Moho seems to provide the right possibilities for this.

I am more intrested in story than in fancy artwork and I am aiming at using simplistic characters and drawing styles. Hopefully I will learn to animate these simple characters in a good way some day too.
(Heh, that sounded good, didn't it? "Simplistic characters" - the real reason why I have to keep it simple is that I just can't draw very well!! :) )

This is my first attempt at a 2 minute piece. "Affe and the sun" is aimed at 6-7 year old kids. This is what Affe looks like:

affe_balansakt.swf

You can watch the video at zippyvideos from the links below. The soundtrack is made in swedish but I put some english subtitles on it to make it understandable. Apologies for my english, it is far from perfect.
Comments are welcome.

This is a short clip, if you want a taste of what it is like:

And this is the whole piece:

(EDIT 31 jan 2007: this one is removed from server! ...sorry...)

regards
capricorn33 ...or just "Cap"

Are there any other serious children's producers out there?

This is an ambitious project for a Moho newbie! There are lots of rough edges, but it's a nice simple story. Good luck with future efforts!

Yeah really good in simplicissity and a good story for the audience.
Also i liked that the character could do anything he wanted, like travveling around the sun with help of the earth. Good for kids, really.

You can of course improve your drawings, outlines and some closeups but not bet for a new user. Good Job.

Ah, yeah... and... good luck.

Yeah, maybe even a little overambitious...! The goal when I started was to make two and half minutes animation in one and a half week production time, including everything, script, sound, animation, editing...
I think I (nearly) kept my schedule, too. THANKS to Moho's user friendliness and fast learning curve!

Oh yes, there is MUCH room for improvement! Tell me about it!

Thanks for your feedback, jahnochli and mr. blaaa :)

Excellent work Capricorn. This just goes to show that a well written story and a creative approach will take you a long way. I hope to see more.

Your story, sense of humor, and concept are really what makes this work stand out! I don't mind the drawing style because it seems to fit the genre (made for kids). Great Work!

Ditto. The story is nicely told and works well for its audience - I have the mind of a child so I am sure of this. ;)

Thanks for all the nice words, jordanek, Green Walls and bupaje. Maybe I will make something public here again in a couple of years when I've learned a little more about animation too...! :)

Any luck yet, Ulrik? Did you get it working?

I was just about to take the clips off the server when I saw your post.
(...a little late I know, sorry)
I'll leave them there for a while if you still want to see them.

Download the Flip4Mac software and you'll be able to watch it. See also this thread.

Using Mac OS X 10.3.9 on an eMac.

I absouletely loved it! Nice and simple, great timing, very educationalist.

If only there was this sort of thing on television when i was a young lad, then maybe I wouldn't have turned out like this :D
