Style weirdness in ASP7.1

Styles are working seemingly random. If I create a new style and try to apply it, the selected shape won't apply.
Using the eyedropper tool when a stroke is active deletes the style entirely, leaving a divider line in the style pulldown menu.
Changing the style also changes other shapes that do not have the style applied will result in fill or stroke changes; A white eye-shine suddenly gains the stroke style of a style I thought I had removed from that shape.
Trying to remove the style from shapes fails. When I click back on the shape, the style is still there. I have to change the shape's color and stroke manually. But later on, changing the style makes the stroke change back to the style (but not the fill, even though the style should affect both)
Re-creating a deleted style resulted in green gradients on all shapes in the project.
Selecting a shape with the Select Shape will give it the gradient of a deleted style, but only when selected; de-selecting the shape will return it to normal.
