How to dress a character with a robe.

Hello all,

I'm very new here, and played already for some time now with ASD.
Now is the idea to create a nice animation for our Dutch Sint Nicholas feast in December.
For this i'm trying to give the main characters a Robe, but i dont get it right.
Every time i move an arm the whole robe is moving with it.

I have already searched the form and with google but i did not yet found a solution.
Most likely i did search wrong, i think.
Can someone have a look at the anime below and show me how to solve this issue.

I have the layer with the robe (Mantal) colored red. I love to see that the robe bands when the character bends and when he walks that the bottom part has a little effect as well.

There are several ways to solve it:

- If you are in 9.5, you can select the robe layer, select the bones of the body and legs (not the arms) and go to the menu Bone>Use selected bones for flexibinding

- You can bind specific points for specific bones. So you can go the the robe layer and -using the bind points tool- you can bind the robe points to the bones of the body. That bound points won't move with any other bone.

- In frame zero, you can separate the arms and its bones far to the rest of the character. Once you have them rigged ok, you can put them back to the original position using the Offset bone too. That way, the strength of the arms' bones won't affect the points of the rest of the body.

a few more ideas from me on this to add to those already given --- nothing wrong with what's been said, but here's a couple more ideas to add to the mix.

frame zero - draw the character with arms out sideways - that can take away some of the issues of bone influence / point binding. if you want them in the drawn pose on frame 1 then move them there then.

did you want the character to put the robe on? if not there's very little point in having all the detail that's hidden by the robe. and the robe, as drawn, is not really set up to be put on - it is the front view of a robe that's already on and done up. if you did want to have him put it on, then that'll take a bit more work.


(oh and your upper arm L patch is not quite in the correct place)
