I am really impressed with ASP 9.5. Rigging is simpler, the layers are fewer and the results are better. How did I survive without nested bone layers? It will be great to see what everybody does with this upgrade.

That looks pretty convincing. Head turns have come a long way in this program!

We'll all get better with the new tools. I'm going to use 'reference' photos. Your brain starts to 'see' the face in 3D space and it seemed like the character's left eye and brow were 'sinking' at some point in the head turn.
Getting close is good. Getting 'too close' doesn't look like art anymore. Thanks for the comments.

I posted an unlisted update of my progress. The head now has hair and ears. I tested nodding side to side and up and down. There are only two bones in the character so far. I don't know if there is a right way to do this yet. I would like to see what others have discovered.

An encouraging comment from a professional animator is big. Thanks.

My next big challenge is to use smartbones to modify phonemes. I want the character to speak while the head is turning.

The nod was great. The turn happened kind of fast to tell, but nothing stood out so it would definitely get the job done!

Danimal, Thanks. The turn was a "No" test. I'll practice with it. If I can make the character talk while turning his head in 2 to 3 weeks I'll have a grin on my face that won't quit!
