Please tell me what you guys think of my head turn. I know some of the strokes are darker but I am going to fix that. Right now I am trying to focus on my movements such as head turns and such. Please tell me what you think and some advice if you wish. I just want to know if this is good or not.. You're help would be great! :) I am still learning anime studio and I am wanting to create an anime series. I have not focused on adding any effects to the character yet. So really I just want you're honest opinion about everything. :) I noticed a problem with the front pieces of hair... So I am going to have that move more with the head next time. But besides that is this a good head turn or no? Is it good? I am sorry I just need advice so that way I can fix my errors and learn more. I already wrote a script and got characters designed for my anime series I just want to make sure I am getting the animation part right before I go out and get some cast (Which will be friends most likely) But I just want to know in general if this is good or not. Even the character design. But like I said I noticed some of the darker strokes. I will fix those as well. So what do you guys think? Also this is the first time I have ever used Anime Studio Pro 9 well Anime Studio in general! :D Also everything on here is on its own layer. Also if I put this in the wrong section sorry. :3 You can move it to the right one if you want. :3

All advice will be great. :)

Yes it is a good head turn, but.....the hair needs to stay with the head then it will be a QUITE good head turn.

Cheers

The hair obscured most of the face through the movement. Without the hair moving with, it almost looks like just some kind of mistake with the face is happening. The chin also doesn't move, again making it look like the face is just mysteriously sliding around on the head.

The head turn itself looks pretty good. As has been said, you need to work on the hair now. The front of the hair simply moves with the face for the most part (with just a bit of tweaking at the sides. The back of the hair will move in the opposite way to the face, again with some tweaking at the sides to keep it at a fairly uniform width. If it's your first attempt it's very good as a start.

I'm probably not the right person to necessarily give advice on this yet, but it looks like you used an interpolated head move possibly using around 4 different head positions, if you used a switch layer to manage it all instead of just freestyle, you can try doing another 4 (or whatever number of positions you used) switch layers for the hair that match the look you want for each pose, then on the timeline match the frames for the Switches of the hair and head. For example, if you Name your Head Position in the Switch "Front" then name the corresponding Hair Position in it's Switch "Front" etc. That way you'll be able to organize your head and hair movements. Play around with it

Doesn't work. You would've got the same result with just an image shifting around within the face shape.

I recommend you do some sketches on paper first, to get a real understanding of how a head looks from different angles. For a start you may google for "head turnaround model sheet". If you are not able to see the volumes on paper, you will not be able to move them in AS convincingly.

In general it gives a much better result to just switch from one good pose to another, than to interpolate smoothly from one badly drawn pose to another. No interpolation can ever heal a bad pose.

I love it! As you and others have said, the hair should appear to be turning, too. But the way you have drawn the hair is really complex and it would be difficult to draw it consistently in different poses. You would have to keep track of every section of the bangs coming down and think about what it would look like in different positions. A more simplified style of drawing hair would work better for animation. You could simplify and still have the tousled bangs look if you made the hairstyle more like this: http://static1.minitokyo.net/view/00/08/515400.jpg Even simpler than this would be even better!
I also agree with slowtiger that it's more important to have good poses than to move smoothly between them. It really helps to plan your character animation by drawing a first pose, final pose, and at least one pose between that shows what kind of motion they took to get from the first pose to the final pose. Can't wait to see more!

Thanks to everyone who has helped me out and gave me advice. I just quoted the last person who replied. But I am actually getting really good at this. My anime is going to turn out amazing! I cant wait to get the cast. I already have the first season planned out just need to get a cast then I just need to start animating. But I got people who are interested so yeah. :) Also lwaxana I am glad you like my work and there will be a lot more coming from me. Sorry for not being so active because I have been working on characters and storyline. But you will be seeing a lot from me. A lot people I have showed my work to said they liked to like the beta stages for my episodes. :p I say beta because I am more use to making video games. But yeah people have been enjoying the layout of my work. Also I posted this on one other forum they liked how I did this I just needed to apply more turn to the hair. But I am really getting this down and I am enjoying animation more then games. I cant wait to release the first season and see what people think. Also I am going a different route with this. I want it to have my own look and feel. So instead of making it look like a straight forward anime I was gonna make it look like an anime and a toon at the same time if that makes sense? Basically it will have an anime layout and such but it will also have a little toon look just a little because I want my own look so that way its not so similar and that way its like my own new thing. You know? But I cant wait to see where this goes and I am really excited. If anymore of you guys have any advice feel free to still post. :) Every little bit helps but I am doing pretty good right now. :)
