Neko and the Gecko "Trailer" my next project

Post by Little Yamori »

Hi all,

Well, I probably have a few months of work left on this next animation, but I figured that I'd post some of what I've got so far. I'm mostly satisfied with it, though being satisfied with this type of work is never a good thing. Anyway, I blended in a little promo for my company in the beginning, but I don't think it distracts too much. Everything was done in AS Debut 6. I'll probably upgrade to 9.5 pro after this project is finished. Hope you all enjoy. Please feel free to comment.

Thanks!

My goodness! I wanted to know if you used 3D software and you used Debut 6?! I can't imagine what you'll be able to do after you upgrade. 傑出した :D

ありがとう!

Well, I feel like I sort of cheat but I like the way it looks so I keep doing it. I use a lot of jpeg and png images that I photoshop. I used this for the clouds and ocean in some spots, then I add them to a bone layer to stretch them around for effect.

どう致しまして! I think most of us use and animate photos. When anybody clicks on my YouTube channel it brings up an autoplay video that uses a photo of a skyline through the window and a "squash and stretch" speaker on the other side. I like the contrast and I plan more like it.
The way you animated the lifesaver that the character threw into the water stuck in my head. That, was good...

ここに日本語が出来る人が多くていいな。 :D
I made the lifesaver using 3 positions in an interpolated switch layer within a bone layer, that way I was able to get some subtle variations in the look of the lifesaver with the bone rotating it with the layer size going from small to big all at the same time. I'm looking forward to getting 9.5 so I can mess around with an actual 3D option.

(but to tell the truth, the thing I was happiest with was the movement of the coffee)

Little Yamori, please don't be angry at me. I cheated. I used Google Translate! I wanted to acknowledge your abilities.
You said you liked the coffee, and I agree it was done well, but the hands looked like they were done in 3D. Neko, the cat, shook his head "No" to the banana. That was a head turn done in Debut 6! The only bad part is that we will have to wait until spring 2014!

Well done, it looks really great. I think the visual style is satisfyingly rich and attractive. I would tweak the character movements to have more variety in speed - they all move in a very floaty and dream-like way, which is basically the default smooth interpolation between keys in AS.

3deeguy, no worries at all, I didn't know about Google translate, that's pretty cool! :D
The hands in the final analysis weren't all that hard. I basically played with the blur and offset in the shading option on the layer. In the layer itself I made individual shapes for the fingers within the same layer. I think I duplicated the thumb layer after it was animated, and then put it above the banana layer so the banana is between the thumb and the rest of the hand. The cat head was a 3 layer switch, but I also matched up switches for the eyes, pupils, ears, and whiskers.

Thanks too to Barry Baker, I'll work on the movement speed in the next phase of the story.

I'm always glad if people like the work, I plan on doing many animated stories for my site and products, but I want the stories to stand on their own outside of promoting my site.

I don't know how I missed this until now, but I'm glad I finally saw it - extraordinary animation. Truly looks 3D. Very nicely done! Looking forward to more!

Wow,

Thanks so much, I just hope I haven't bitten off more than I can chew trying to finish it.

It may take a few more bites than you thought but once you've climbed halfway up that challenge and you look back at your distant starting point, you ask yourself "Can I do this?" You know the answer to that question. :)
