Didn't think this one all the way through...

Well, crud. Didn't think this one all the way through. Test looked nice enough though.
Nothing too crazy, just got a Group with a little torch set up here, using an angle control bone to keep the flame particle layer always oriented up...

That all works fine, but my plan was making this as a group that could be pulled to in a Hand Switch layer for a character. Not really thinking about the fact that it is a totally different bone (arm bone) that controls where this group will be, and all of this stuff winds up nested inside, and totally useless in application.

Any fixes for this? (Main Character rig bone layer being able to influence bone layers within itself?) Or am I going to have to move these elements to to the main bone layer.

Nested bone control does not work on bone layers. The nested control stops when it hits a bone layer. However, with nested bone control you don't need sub bone layers to orient the particles. Put the bones in the parent layer.

So I guess the answer is, yes you will need to move stuff out of the sub bone layer into the parent layer control. Without seeing your exact layer setup it would be hard to say exactly though.

Thanks. That's what I figured. I don't know that anyone should see the layer setup for some of these characters. I mean, this is shameful--under the bed, way in the back of the closet--kind of stuff going on. I've been playing Dr. Frankenstein, stitching new techniques to old characters that have original layers from when I started with this a little over a year ago (with upgrades from ASP8 to 9 to 9.2.)

For workflow reasons alone I desperately need to do a reset at some point, but I've been sort of waiting to find a skill/technique plateau. And damn it all if there isn't always some new trick right around the corner.
