So here's another clip from that project that I seem to always be working on. At this rate I'll never finish it.
So the project was called Economy Man 2, which was a sequel to this atrocity:
Things however have changed. I'm constantly working on this current one, and when I'm not (Because I'm at work) I'm constantly thinking about ways to further unfold the universe. Due to this, the project has become too big to simply be another chapter in some going-nowhere personal franchise and has taken on an identity of its own. There's obviously going to be a lot of thematic similarities between the two projects, but I think that what I'm working on right now can be a completely different concept all together. That said, Instead of calling it ECONOMY MAN 2, I have decided to rename it: "Elsewhere"
It bears worth mentioning that there is a large jumbotron depicting schedule information which contains vulgarity. I'm going to remove those in the future and replace them with more relevant information. It's a good chance to implement some ambiguous tidbits of detail that highly suggest the exposition of the world. I have absolutely no intention of being straight foreword with the story on this one, instead my intention is to delve you into the world and experience the events as they take place. There will be very simple concept initially in the story that can be followed to keep the viewer going, but its minimalistic on purpose and designed to produce more questions than answers...
anyways.
here's 36 second clip I just finished throwing together. The only audio lies in the weird looking alien thing that slaps the boy. I have to animate around the lines. Other than that, Audio is reserved for another day.
It's crude and people tell me its extremely creepy. viewer discretion is adviseiapoufidosapugfi8edo9ysawug890dgye8w0ath

I really like the end where you have just silhouettes. Sometimes less is more.

You know...I dug it. It's like an underground comic book mixed with a David Lynch movie, the style is all over the place but that becomes the style. It's real arty.

Holy freaking nightmare fodder!! Glad I watched it during the bright happy sunlight of daytime!!!
Phew... the key to this "working" for me is... completely undefinable. Don't take this the wrong way but, the animation isn't... perfect... the imagery is very rough, so I can't actually put my finger on exactly why I was glued to the screen from start to finish. There's just something creepyilly compelling about it. Somehow the way this is put together and the combination of audio and visuals, fast cuts, it just creates this bizarre terrifying other place... "Elsewhere"... is that the title? It should be. "Elsewhere" is the perfect description. It's awesome.
I will say that the first "episode" had some slow moments. I was really getting into it, totally terrified... then after a while I did feel some slight restlessness... a bit of a "this is too long feeling". It was a gap just before the guy with his head on a pole slides in for the first time. Once he shows up then I got sucked in to the story again.
Now, be careful. The "new" one you started feels too... "clean". I would try to stay with the style of the first one. If you want to spend more effort to improve the look focus only on animation. Don't clean up those rough hand drawn images too much. Just an opinion.
Watch this with the lights on!!!!
p.s. Imagine... you were sucked into an alternate universe and this place was REAL and you had to live in it. This will keep me from sleeping tonight for sure.

Thanks for the comment. That first clip is called "economy man" elsewhere is the name of the second clip. It Has a very different style. A different asthetic to it but similar themes. I made economy man about a year and a half ago, and since then I've gotten over the idea and decided to try a completely different approach. The focus on Elsewhere is largely the animation, but also the atmosphere. Not necessarily a conforminstic approach, I want to go for an old school MTV approach. In order to do that, my focus is more on using something aside from bones as I personally (not condemning at all!) find them too restricting and inhibiting to my style. I am strictly frame by frame and point animation, which is exactly why things are so jumpy.
The biggest problem for me with eman1 is the lack of environment. So I'm working on making the world seem more alive.
You mentioned that it looks too clean. There is a specific reason for it.
There are 2 aspects to the asthetics in Elsewhere. For the most part, the meaning behind it is based on my interpretation of the quote: "nothing is true, everything is permitted" I don't know who said it or what it's intended meaning was for sure, but for me it implinents that the objectivity of reality is usually veiled by the fictional veil of subjective standards and customs which are enforced by cultural standards and contemporaries. For instance, a tree I a tree until you become educated into believing that a tree is actually a lumber source or a global warming component.
That in mind, there is the location itself, the cities, the train stations, they're shaded specifically to look scratchy and filthy and unpleasant. The people are surly and low browed, and everything is clearly in a state of decay. And there are the advertisements, which are profoundly clean and Chrystal clear, serving to starkly contrast the reality it's trying to conceal. Like the pretty luxurious coffin concealing the rotting corpse inside.
The boy himself has arrived to the city, and therefore he's extremely clean and untouched and obviously sticks out, but as the story progresses, he'll slowly fall victim to this dying world of Elsewhere.

This line had me laughing and laughing. Simple things for simple minds and all.
The video is interesting and certainly makes me want to see more, if for no other reason to finally give me an excuse to see that therapist I've been checking out.

As I finish more stuff, I'll toss up more segments to place at the mercy of your famous critiquing skills.

Well,
I have to give you credit for creating a place with such a strong environment and theme. I just can't watch it though. I've watched your stuff before, and you give a true feeling of unease and disturbance, so much so that I feel really uncomfortable after (like my brain needs a shower). So it's hard for me to give any input or critique since it sort of gets to me.
I know you'll understand, since I think this is the actual effect you want your work to have on people, but I'll be checking out. (so I guess this is a positive critique of sorts).
