Head turn with dialog

Hi everyone-

Although I've been animating for some time now I've only been using Anime Studio for about 3 months. The learning curve was very steep for me and I watched endless tutorials and also got a lot of good tips off this forum. I believe that AS has tremendous potential as yet unrealized. I still have much to learn and am excited about the possibilities.

Anyway, here's my short test animation with my character Buddy Riff:

Hope you like it-

Really good. It's always cool to see what someone with prior animating experience does with AS. Were the backgrounds done in AS as well? Looking forward to seeing more.

Very good. It's not only dialogue but also an attitude in the mouth movements.

Brilliant eye for movement and communication through your expressions, matched perfect to the dialog. Can't wait to see what you do from here on out.

I can only echo previous comments - Brilliant! Really high quality stuff - character design, animation, especially facial stuff.
Question - I'm struggling a bit with head turns. How did you do them? Bone dial and just push and pull points? Moving layers? Morph targets? Did specific tutorials help you with this?
Thanks and again, great work, can't wait to see more!!

Thanks. I'm thinking maybe if people are interested I may do a tutorial on facial expression and dialog. For the head turns, yes, it was bone dial and push points around. The mouth shapes, eye shapes and brows were switch layers.

Thanks Furpuss! Love a tutorial on facial expression and dialog. So what did you animate in prior to ASPro? Maya? 3DSMax?

Paper and pencil for 25 years. Then 15 years using Maya and other 3D software.

Not only did you do a head turn but the head and the beret tilted up which means your character can nod both "yes" and "no". Excellent!

Wow! 25 years with pencil and paper - Damn impressive. Then Maya, etc... Can't wait to see more of your work!!

Oh, and the scaling up of the head when he says "wrong" (as well as the subtle elongation of the turtle neck) really adds to accent the dialog. Again, brilliant!

That was pretty impressive and very expressive! I too would like to see a tutorial on how you did that.
