I'm getting ready to animate a Chinese dragon and was wondering if there's a way to get bones to follow a path.

Thanks in advance.

Not that I know of. But you make one smart bone to control the movement of another bone. All you need to do is change the smart bone action. With two or more you could have more than one path and mix them.

As far as I know, you can't use follow path for this kind of bone movement. Anyway, you can bend the vector layers of your dragon with a path.
Years ago, before the Follow Path feature, I worked with this technique:

Maybe it's still valid in this days. Here is a dragon I made with it:

in V10 you can get a bone to follow a target bone; so if you have a target bone and animate that along a "virtual" path the root bone will follow. (see tutorial 3.6)

I have a bone follow path script finished for V9, but V10 has got in the way so it's not tested for release yet (and, to a considerable extent, its functions are overtaken by target bones). see viewtopic.php?f=13&t=25424. If you really need it, I'll package it for release in the next week or so.

I don't think I follow. Parent a group of verts to a path, then animate the verts?

Thanks, Selgin. (It's been a long time. :) )
