Smart Bones / Action issues. Glitching out.

So, I am trying to make some basic eye controls here, and I am not sure what is happening. I create the bone layer, reduce the bone strength to 0, add angle constraints, and name the levers accordingly. Now, when I create an action (in this case "Eyes Side" which will move the pupils from side to side) I click rotate on the bone controls and when I click it, something is happening and the bone just disappears completely. If I press SHIFT and drag to the right, it appears as shown. Once I have it over to the right like that, normally, I would select a layer that I want the lever to move, and then move it to the position I want. However, when I click on the layer I wish to move (the pupils *which I highlight* and I use the translate tool, they disappear completely. I'm not sure what is happening here. Normally I would just be able to move them to a new position, but it seems to be having a lot of problems doing this. Any help would be appreciated thanks!

In the 2nd image, I have created a smart bone action, rotated the bone to the right, and selected the eyelid layer. If I click the translate tool, and click on the lower eye lid, it disappears. If I undo it, and sort of try clicking around it a bit, sometimes it will move down or up slightly, but I can't just slide it into a position I want. I want the lever to move the eyelids wider or narrower. I don't know if there is a bug with my program or why the eyelid disappears when I click on it. Help!

I should mention, that bone that is highlighted red (the smart bone)? If I click on that and try to drag it to the left, it disappears from view. The only way to have it appear in the position it is in was to hold shift and drag to the right, at which point it just "appeared" in that position, you don't see any fluid movement while moving the bone, it disappears and reappears. And the only way to get it in that position is to hold shift while dragging it side to side. A Real pain in the ass.
