Clicking "interpolate sub layers" in the switch layer isn't working even though I didn't add or delete any points! Btw the sub layers are group layers with their own sub layers is that a problem?

Yes, switches can only interpolate immediate child vector layers, not nested layers.

Might want to read the user manual.
