First Backgound I Ever Made

Well you were right on that part.. The colors are meant that way... Not as an excuse either... Like I just think it looks good that way.. But yeah maybe once I start animating the series it will look better. :3ddrake wrote:Looks nice. Only a couple of odd perspective issues that I see, but nothing too distracting or strange unless you're just staring at it.
I think the main "bleh" thing about it for me is the color scheme is all very soft. Like the whole thing was made and then you dropped the opacity to 25%
Seems like your usual response if someone mentions a style choice is that it's "supposed to be that way," so I'll just assume that's the case again here![]()
But anyway, still good background art, and the character is well drawn. Maybe eventually with some movement she won't blend into it as much.

Just to throw this out there though, there might be a line in between if you're getting a lot of feedback that you dismiss because of some kind of style mimicry choice, (ultimately it does come down to your preference...) but at a certain point you kind of have to think that some elements might not be working quite right for others. And that's still something worth considering.
I guess if you're not looking to actually change anything because all of the choices are for purpose, then maybe you're not actually looking for critique at all. Just saying, it's easy to wind up in a holding pattern that way... and eventually someone might be saying "That looks terrible," and you're trying to say, "Oh, well sure, but it's supposed to look terrible."
Anyway, don't mind me. It's late and I'm waiting on a render after a long day and maybe that sounded crankier than it should have.I don't mean it so. Just food for thought. Looking forward to seeing some animation with the soft color style to have an actual opinion of how it's working.
Happy animating!
I actually drew this on paper first and it looks exact with a few modifications of course... Well it looks better on the computer. .-. Honestly I draw better on the computer then by hand.. Ehh either way there is still room to improve always!Little Yamori wrote:Very Japanese style room. I know that there are some anime that prefer the softer color palette, so it looks like that's the style your going after. Keep at it. For what it's worth, I might try drawing out on paper a half dozen room perspectives and then trace them in AS as a practice. Just a thought.

Very definitely. This looks like a dream or something. Also, since everything in the scene shares this soft look, it kind of make it look flat despite the forced perspective.ddrake wrote:I think the main "bleh" thing about it for me is the color scheme is all very soft.
The chair also has a very odd perspective. It seems like the back and the seat are in two different dimensionsHentron wrote:What seems to poke me in the eye is the table.
When I first looked it seemed like the curtain was actually stuck in the girls skirt.Hentron wrote:The only other thing I see odd here is the curtain, it is too wrinkly.
Honestly I was planning on shading it but like I said is I don't know how to achieve like a anime type of shading in anime studio... The only way I could think of is exporting it into photoshop and shading it from there... But the problem is I would like to be able to moving every object that I have drawn... But if there is a way for me to shade things in very detail with anime studio so I could make it look more like a visual novel background that would be great..Danimal wrote:Very definitely. Overall it's well drawn and the perspectives are good for the most part. It just really looks flat. It strikes me as an AutoCAD drawing or something. The 3D is seen but it's not believed. I think some depth of field effects or even some shading or different line widths on the far background elements would really bring this to life.
Where is the shading option? o.o I cant find it I know about adding everything to its own layer... I already do that. :p But the only form of shading I know is create the shading on a layer put the object your shading and the shade in its own group mask it by hiding all and then adjust the shading to where you need it etc... But I don't know how to make the shading look professional in Anime Studio to where it blends really well with the objects.Little Yamori wrote:As far as shading goes, you might want to experiment with the shading options for each individual layer. AS offers a relatively useful auto shading feature that you can adjust in color, blur and direction, but it works best when everything is in it's own layer, for example "Kimi" would need to be on a separate layer from the room, and the table, chair, bed, clock etc...should be on their own layers too. This would give you more control on this shading option.
