Rotation

I believe this topic has been covered, but I'm not able to find it. Would anyone know how to hide an object as it rotates behind another. Think of it as, for example, the earth and moon in 2D formats encased in a 3D environment. The moon is circling the earth on a 3D plane. I created the plane, basically a path for the moon to follow. The moon rotates around the earth on the plane, yet it stays visible (as though it is in front of the earth) throughout the rotation process, even when it is behind the earth.
Thanks for any suggestions.
