I have a scene where the characters are playing a video game. I'm trying to import a video into a project, and make it appear as if it's on TV screen. When i try to import a movie, I only get a piece of paper with a question mark, that looks like this:
I'm not exactly sure, this is possible, so I could be trying to do something that simply can't be done. If anyone knows how to go about doing this, I would appreciate the help.

We need more information, what format is the video?

It's a 15 sec MP4 vid.
edit: the 4th scene on the storyboard shows what I'm trying to do.
I've checked youtube and tutorial vids I bought. I just don't see anything on how to use the feature. I thought since it's in the file drop down menu, it would be fairly easy to find something on this feature.

With my 9.5 pro I simply select File / Import / Movie and select the mp4 without a problem.
Which version and flavour (pro/debut) are you using?
Have you tried with other formats? Other mp4 from a different source?
You could post a link to the video or reference an existing file online which has the problem for others to try.

I'm using pro 9(I think you had to pay for 9.5, which I didn't).
No I didn't try another format, because while trying to find a solution to my problem, I came across others who said they couldn't get any format to work.

dumb question ... does the downloaded copy of the video play OK on your system outside AS? (YT has a habit of preventing / deliberately corrupting downloads)
(I can load MP4 into AS10 without any issues - I'm on the road right now so I don't have access to my systems with the legacy versions of AS on them to try a load into AS9, but if it were a problem with AS I'd have expected to see loads of comments about it)
next dumb question - (tonyg has said this): you are using import _movie_ (not import video)?

Yeah the video plays just fine outside of AS. Also, yes I used the import movie function. I have since tried another format of video, and it too failed. I too, am puzzled by the lack of info on this, since it seems like a simple task. I figured here would be my only hope, but I guess it's not a feature many people use. I'm starting to think it simply doesn't work, which sucks. Maybe it's an issue with pro 9, if you got it to work in 10.

Note down one problem.
If you trying to import transparent background ( movie ) file , its importing in 32 bit Window version but not importing in 64 Bit window system.
See this video I have created with lots of transparent background mov in 32 Bit window version.

I payed for my original asd9 and then I went to smith micro for a "free"update, the upgrades are the ones that cost money, heres alink for pro updates (it only goes to 9.2 for pro, 9.5 for deput).http://my.smithmicro.com/anime-pro-updates.html.hope it works.

The movie I am trying to import isn't transparent. I simply want it to appear as if it's playing on an animated tv.
I am using pro 9.2 (32-bit). I took this snapshot of AS startup screen to show you:
