Import a vectorial logo...

Hello!

So, I got a problem - I have a company-Logo in an .eps-File.
Now I would like to put this onto a character in Anime Studio...
BUT - I can't find a way to just simply vectorize this logo in Anime Studio.
I need it as a vector, because maybe I've to scale the camera oder charakter.

I build the Logo in Anime Studio - but it just simply interprets the curves different...
:(

I tried trace - but this looks not well.
I tried to scale a big .png in AS - but then the picture becomes fuzzy and sharp at the edges and looks not smooth anymore.
(Aliasingproblem?!)

And even the direct import of the .eps-File looks very strange.

Do you have any help for me?

Would be so great!

Best,
Mejin

Instinct would have taken me to suggest that you export the logo as a PNG to be maybe 2 or 4 times the size you need, so all the scaling is to scale down --- (i.e. if you are working with HD 1920*1080 and you want the logo to fill the screen then you should think in terms of creating a PNG with the SHORTEST side at about 2000 to 4000 pixels) -- or if you want to zoom in to a detail, then make it even bigger so that the only scaling is to scale down

... but are you saying that you've tried this and it hasn't worked?? If so, I guess you'll need to export a range of sizes and switch between them according to the shot???

Hello!

Well I'm not sure if I've done that... so - here's my problem - I want this Logo(I blurred it, because I don't know, if I'm allowed to show) - to be in the end at a character - but much smaller - so I imported a PNG.

Image

But after I scale it smaler it gets really fuzzy(and the letters as well)... :/

Image

And if I animate it it looks very fuzzy at all. I had this fuzzy-Problem before with imported Images - as soon as I scale them in any way - they look pretty messed up. :(

Best,
Mejin

Did you render them? Because your images look like screenshots of the project window - the rendered quality is much better.

No - I rendered them. :/
I just adjusted the clipping later.

So, I did a little video to show my problem better:

The first one is with an unscaled PNG - the second with a scaled.
As you can see it flickers at has a very jaggy appearing.

Unscaled:

Scaled:

Here's the file:

It's just a PNG imported - and then scaled.:/

sorry - the file is flagged as unsafe download by my antivirus software -- it's an .exe not a .anme... can you find a safer host site please.

ok -that's worked well - thanks - but you also need to upload the testLogo.png file!

The .png is 283*283 pixels. You have an HDTV 1920*1080 pixel project. So if the .png needs to occupy more than 283*283 of the 1920*1080 pixels, the render engine will need to work out how to make one pixel in the input file fill maybe as many as 49 (7*7) pixels in the output file if you scale that up to be full screen width. The chance of getting jaggies etc is very high.

I'll suggest again that you use the original vector artwork in your EPS editor of choice (maybe AI?!), scale it up in that, and export a .png of at least 10 times the pixel size you now have - i.e. 2830*2830 pixels - import that into AS and in AS use the layer scale tool to scale it down to the desired (animated) size(s), and see if that improves things for you.

All that said, I turned OFF "nearest neighbour sampling" for new image files (edit / preferences), loaded a new copy of your original .PNG, scaled that image to 10 times its size in AS and rendered to PNG sequence -- the result is really not that bad at all!! So that's another thing you might like to try.

hope that helps! let me know how you get on!

Hey!
Thank you for looking into that file!
Hm, well - I have rendered the original Vector artwork in a very big size - and scaled it down in AS.
But - as I said - it starts to flicker and to have jagged outlines then... :/
I just have the Logo to be quite small in my scene, but even about 50 Times bigger - scaled down in AS - it
get's crappy like the screenshots I showed before - and like in the videos white pixels appear and the outline is
very jaggy.

I had that problem before in another project - I simply can't work with JPG/PNG - that way - because I can't scale them in
any way in AS - without becoming jaggy.

I don't know, where the problem is with that... :(

You can see my old problem here:
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=25325&p=141105#p141105

(The outlines are pretty jaggy)

/edit: Ah - the sampling was already turned OFF in the options - but makes no difference if it is on or off... :/

/edit2: I now tried as well to import is in all 3 available Vector-importable formats - nothing works good. -_-

the PNG file you uploaded was VERY small (16k) (and only 283 px square) ... I'd expect a high quality file to be maybe 16Mb... (but PNG has lossless compression, so big areas of single colours don't take up much file space --- I put your testLogo.png through photoshop and resized to be 2830*2830 and got a 440kb PNG)

let's do this step by step:
>> you have an EPS -- load that into Illustrator or any other _vector_ editing program that does the job
>> change the canvas size to be 10 times bigger than it is and scale the vectors to be 10 times bigger (you might do that in one hit with rescale image)
>> make sure that your PNG export options are appropriate -- e.g. high resolution -- and hit save as..

Hi!

Yes, I know it was very small, because the most time I just need it very small.
I thought it makes no sense to have such a huge file, as long as I see it really small in the endframe.
I know how to render out different image-sizes. ;) But thx.

But here you go another test - the Logo is really big:
http://we.tl/s7z8mDUhpn

But I just need it small. I scaled it - and it looks crappy flickering and so on as ever:

I did some testing and I'm sure your logo looks crappy just because of your choice of codec in the video, especially in small scale when the logo isn't much bigger than the compression artefacts.

Do some 1 sec test with the logo moving in small size, render it once with PNG codec: this will look perfect. Rendr it again with h.264 set to 25% quality: this will look crappy.

Which codec did you use in your examples? And be aware that every upload site will add their own compression as well.
