Reversing the target bone angle. (the Gorilla)

So I'm studying the gorilla's left arm and his target bone, and I can't figure out how they/you make his arm bend the opposite direction. His elbow bends one way, then bends the other way. I've been messing with the arm, but I cannot make it bend the opposite direction. How is his elbow bending like that?

Actually, this has been a reason why I haven't been using target bones for walk cycles, even though I would like to. If anyone one explain, I would appricate it.

Hi, I rigged and animated that gorilla :)
Changing the IK direction is very easy, but it's kind of a hidden feature. Check this thread, there you will find a tutorial to do it:

Nice rig. and walk cycle :D Also, thanks for answering this, because this will make walk cycles much easier I think.
