Eye Mask

Hi,
Can someone suggest a way of setting this mask up so the pupil is masked when the eyes travel to the inside?
I want the eyes them selves to be shapes masked by the head so I can rotate the head with smart bones but
can't figure how to set it up so the pupils are masked by the eye at the same time.

Many thanks and hope you all have a great thanksgiving over in the US.

Group the pupil and eye layer, with the eye layer add to mask.

The most (traditionally) 'logical' way would be to put the pupil and eyes in their own group, but this sort of nested masking is what seems to cause the mask canvas vs render bug to rear it's head.

In fact, a much simpler solution is to use shape stack order:
1) put pupil and eye sockets together in the same layer (delete eye fill for now)
2) create a larger shape than the mask with the face colour, eye sockets as holes in the shape
3) create white fills for the eyes
4) change the eye white stack order to be below the pupil.

That way the pupils sit under the face, but above the white - this is quite unique to AS's capabilities of having different shape stack order on attached shapes.

Thanks to you both for the reply's.
I've never been able to quite follow how masking works in AS. I had tried all sorts of combinations for a good hour before I decided to post for help.
Many, many thanks again.

Hi funksmaname,
I just tried to open up that file to look at it and it won't open at all?

EDIT: It's ok. I got it open.
Thanks again funksmaname!

 no probs.

The worst thing is that when you fiddle with masking you have to render to make sure that it isn't doing what you want it to in some cases (with nested masked groups).
Still, there are several ways to skin a cat :) Hopefully the masking preview issue can get fixed in future!

That masking setup is pure genius in it's simplicity funksmaname!!!!
I would never have thought of using 1 x groups fill layer stacking order to achieve those results.
Instead I was trying to achieve it with layer upon layer until it became overwhelmingly frustrating.

Thanks again!!!!

Here's another picture explaining the setup. I always use it :)
