Animating with opacity

Hi all, I am new here so a big hello to everyone from a damp Brighton in the UK. I am using Anime Debut 6. I am trying to animate one layer becoming stronger to eventually take over from another layer or to put it another way - to take the layer underneath the one above it and gradually fade this lower level to become the upper layer. I have been trying to do this using the opacity function ie fading the opacity of the layers in the layer settings pop up in an attempt to achieve this. I have read some other threads on similar topics and the render function was mentioned. I have also looked at this and it does show opacity changes at a given frame where the main design work space does not. I am wondering if it possible to somehow see opacity animations as they happen on the main page and I am a bit puzzled why one cannot do this :? I am using the debut version and maybe things are different on the studio version. But I want to get as much out of debut as I can for now. Pauli.

Hi there from a few miles along the coast in Kent!

assuming that, when you render, you're getting the effect you want then that's job done.

... even on AS Pro 11 the workspace doesn't show everything that a render does (including opacity - which is either "on" or "off" in the workspace -- it doesn't show intermediate values that are shown in a render)!
