I like the way patches work, but then I have to do layer ordering....
Can smartbones be used for layer ordering? cuz i don't a foot to cross over and the patches will patch a stroke that i don't want patched....

Yes. A smart bone can control layer ordering. Make sure you click on the animated ordering check box in the bones tab.

The patch is just a quick mask. You would have more flexibility with just using a normal mask.
