Line width issues

The last two times I tried using Anime Studio Debut 8.2 when I try to use the width tool, it highlights the nearest point to the mouse red, and makes a large transparent red dot around it. When I click and try to change the width like I used to, it highlights all the points on that shape/layer and changes them all. I wanted to make the ends of the lines taper like I had been doing before, but the only way I can do less than all of them is by selecting two or more points and then using the width tool,which doesn't work very well for that. Anyone know if there a setting I turned on, a bug or something else that caused this?
