Problem with the space key

I press the space bar without me noticing and this happens often since it's so big. Is it possible to change the play key to something else?
I couldn't find a key config option in the menu.

Edit Tab > Preferences > Tools > Check box "Classic point editing keyboard shortcuts"

That will change the way a few different things work, but I can't find it in the manual. Checking or unchecking the box will also change the way welding points and unselecting points will work some of the other tools.

Thanks but that would come with a bunch of problems I'd like to avoid since I'm still learning.
Wow there is no option to customize keyboard shortcuts?

It must be exhausting being angry about everything. Chill out. If you want to use the software, it does do a lot of things differently. If you don't, I'm sure there are plenty of other programs to get angry about. Do the tutorials, refer to the manual, wander around the program interface using discovery-based learning...It's a great program; you get a lot of bang for your buck.

I'm using discovery-based learning combined with tutorials which I do with every software I learn, this normally works fine. I really don't understand why AS has to handle so much things so differently. I've used hundreds of different softwares and I usually adapt really fast since they all do certain things similarly. AS always has these little blockades it's either a bug or handles so impractical or counterintuitive to what I'm used to that I get pissed off. Guess someone that hasn't used as much different software as I won't have as much problems since they are not fixated on certain things that have become a habit for me.

Sorry if I rant sometimes just ignore it, that's kind of how I work. I'm still thankful for all the help I get here. Hopefully my posts will be helpful to people that encounter the same problems as I do.

It doesn't look like I can change the space key in the edit keyboard shortcuts. It was neither in the Toolbar Animation nor the Window Animation. Is this for real?

You're the first person I know who complains about the space key being too big.

I'm not complaining about its size, I'm complaining about it interfering with my work and the disability to change the playback to some other button.

It's great for writing text, it's good as playbutton for a mediaplayer it sucks as playbutton in animation software. None of the other animation software I've used has playback on the space key.

Well, all video software has play on space, so I'm used to that, except TVPaint which likes to be different.

Um...so your problem is that you can't keep yourself from hitting buttons you don't mean to? No software can help you there...that problem is BKAC.

What we call a "layer 8 problem".

Blender uses alt + a
Adobe Animate uses enter
Toon Boom has no key assigned but the option to use any other unused key.
Synfig Studio uses ctrl +p
Opentoonz doesn't seem to have a key to play back
TVPaint is the same as ToonBoom with no standard key assignment
Maya uses alt + v
Krita uses enter
3Ds max uses /
Photoshop has none assigned
Softimage uses L

That is pretty much all the animation software I know of and deem mentionable and non of them uses the space key as playback key. Even if they did use the space key they at least have the option to change it. Seriously AS is in version 11 and I can't change a goddamn key and ppl here wonder why I get pissed of so much.

The only software I know that uses the space key for playback are video players and some video editing software.

Adobe After Effects is an animation program that uses the Space Bar for playback. Actually, like ASP, AE uses the space bar for different input depending on context. In AE, the space bar can also be used for panning; in ASP it is also used to create a Shape.

The point is, different programs use the key commands in different ways.

While I don't personally take issue with how the Space Bar is used in these program, I do agree that it should be re-assignable. But I could say that about almost any program I use.

Since that's not likely to happen, I think you need to practice to not unintentionally hit the space bar. You would have to do that in any program anyway, even if the program is a word processor. Sorry, I"m not trying to be rude, just sayin' that's probably the most practical solution.

Alternatively, could you simply move the keyboard a little away from your arm so you don't accidentally hit the Space Bar? On my tablet, for example, my palm kept hitting the task bar at the bottom of the screen and unintentionally launching programs, so I just moved the task bar to the top of the screen.
