How to always step

Simple question. I have a bone dial to change between switch layers. But every time I move the bone to change the displayed layer, I have to remember to select Step for that key frame to that the bone doesn't drift between switch layers. I'm always going to want the movements of this bone to be Step. How do I set that up?

Set the default interpolation (top of timeline) to Copy Previous. Then as long as the last key is step interpolation, the next one will be as well.

Got it. Thank you! Is there a way to make a default interpolation that is specific to a layer, or perhaps to a group? Copy Previous won't really help if I'm jumping around to lots of different layers and keyframes all the time. Maybe this is something I could use reference layers for?

No, there's no way to set it per layer. But it works for the selected bone channels, so each bone will interpolate however its previous key does. So if one bone has a step key and all the others are smooth, that one bone will be the only one set to step the next time you key all the bones. Just be sure to select the bone and set it's key interpolation on the selected bone channel, by right-clicking the key (or in the keyframe windows with tat selected channel key selected in the timeline).
