The last two images (call them images of a crown and potato) in tutorial 2.1 show the bottom of a crown removed with the delete edge tool, and the end points welded to the potato. The crown is filled with yellow at the end.

How is that done? When I weld the points, the crown is not a closed shape. When I select the edge of the crown with the Create Shape tool, it only selects the edge that was originally part of the crown; the edge that is now "shared" with the potato is not selected. If I shift-select the shared edge, then everything is selected, but the crown is still not a closed shape, and cannot be filled.

If you do that, your crown will be a closed form ready to be filled, and remember that there is a lot of ways to can select only the points that you want, pressing Ctrl for use Lazo is one of they i.e., and remember you can hold pressed Alt key too to avoid select all the points of a shape when you click over it ...CIAO!

you can shift-click individual points to include or exclude them from a shape.
