3D import from Cinema 4D

Have now searched through all relevant tutorials/scripts/postings regarding this subject. Not only did I learn a lot on this subject but I also stumbled across other threads that were awesome.

Sorry to post a new thread but came across the excellent scripts that Brian (7feet) wrote for simple object shading 1.02 and all other relevant postings.

Only problem is I built a simple shape in Cinema 4D, assigned a material checking colour and diffusion and exported as Wavefront OBJ. When imported I used script - Auto scale, reduced edge offset to 0 but when I ran Brian's script I got first dialogue box followed by 'No materials found in this layer'. In MOHO it only shows as a 3D object in default colour (yellow).

I've created a shape in Wings 3D which works fine. Can anone shed any ligyht on what I'm doing wrond in Cinema 4D

Thanks Guys

Try “Riptide" - for Mac or PC

Hi Pete,

I use Cinema 4D also, and have had no luck importing 3D objects from it into Moho with textures. They just come in black. I've downloaded the Riptide plugin and used it, but still no textures. Can you give me a rundown of your procedure for doing this, please?

I'm using a Mac, but it shouldn't make any difference, I don't think.

thanks a lot,
Jack

As long as one uses C4D’s own colour - they should appear in Moho.
If one uses textures from any other source-file on the system
one has to bring in the “Texture-File” manually into that folder
where one saves the .obj- and .mtl-file.

Hi Jack

Nolan seems to have this one sorted and I'll follow his lead.

I'm still playing around with this but the I resolved the black issue by going into the layer settings for the 3d obj. going to the 3D options tab and turning off the edge offset (reducing to 0) box.

Hope that helps

Pete

OK, I tried your suggestion, and I still don't have a 3D object, just a silhouette, but after reducing the edge offset to 0 it's now gray instead of black. I made a material in Cinema, using the procedural marble texture, but there is no texture bitmap. I have an .obj file and a .mtl file, but I don't get any color or 3D at all, just a silhouette.

Well, procedural textures created inside C4D are not exported in a way
that Moho can read them - Moho needs the Texture-File.
Plain colours like green, blue, red…. Moho can read without it.
