Is there a good FREE video editor for windows, that can capture from video camera import/export. Also be usefull in editing.

I haven't tried this application so this is not a personal recommendation, but you may want to take a look at http://www.shellcity.net/ where there is at present a freeware editor called AVI Tricks available.

I did a search and I see that EditStudioPro is now owned by MediaChance after Puremotion went belly up a month ago. Does anyone have any experience using this video editor? Would welcome any feedback.

VirtualDub is a very handy, very mature, barebones, intuitive video editor -- free as in beer

As for DV capture...

"VirtualDub needs a Video for Windows capture driver to capture. Most Firewire (DV) devices do not provide a VFW driver, and thus cannot be used by VirtualDub at all. Also, ATI appears to be shipping their current devices with a WDM (Windows Driver Model) driver only; this can be used indirectly by VirtualDub through a Microsoft wrapper, but it is crippled in functionality and it also appears that the wrapper is buggy. The wrapper will show up as 'Microsoft WDM Image Capture (Win32).' If it works for you, great."

dazza101: I use EditStudio Pro and like it quite a bit. You can have unlimited audio, video, and effect tracks, and the text effects are pretty good. There are many transitions you can use. I'd say it's a mid-level video program.

I especially like the options to export a movie for use in a DVD, which is what I mostly use it for. The default settings for NTSC DVD MPEG-2 work well for my purposes, but there are a lot of settings you can tweak in the export settings if you are more expert.

I also like it because it works well with my DVD creating software of choice, DVD-Lab Pro (also by MediaChance). I think it was a good move for MediaChance to acquire EditStudio because they do work so well together.

Oh yeah, as for DV capture, it works without having to have a VFW driver. I use my camcorder to transfer video from my VCR into my computer, and it works. Only rarely do I have a problem with dropped frames, but that is if I've been capturing a lot of stuff for a long time, or if there is no signal on part of my tape or tracking problems.

MediaChance also has a deal where you can get EditStudio Pro for $79 right now, which is a lot less than PureMotion used to sell the pro version for. They also sell a bundle with DVD-Lab Pro for $299 or DVD-Lab Studio for $179.

Blender has a built in non-linear video editor. A lot of people use it just for that feature alone.
