Real nice! In the animation, try including some tail movement, eye blinks, and moving bubbles. Small things, but would make a big difference.

Thanks...

You're right !

The tail movement is at the end of the animation... :o)))
Really at the end !!! ;o)

If you want to improve this animation I could send you the moho file... No problem !

We could suggest a new special topic to LM forum : "improvement topic" where we could send the moho files and the other users could improve it to obtain the best drawing or animation... because each Moho user has good ideas and could add elements.
At the end, a simple drawing or animation could be "perfect" or "wonderful" through the abilities of the users...

I animate very careful... :o))))

p6r,

You're right -- the tail movement IS right at the end. It's so subtle that I missed it...maybe there's a moral there...

I accept your challenge! Send it to me at jah [dot] nocli [at] gmail [dot] com...

That's a great idea!

okay I made a short video with your dolphin.

I didn't have much time to polish it very well, but I did add some elements to it that make it look a little more life-like.

what I did:
totally reboned the dolphin (added more bones so it can be animated smoothly).
added a mouth bone to open and close the mouth.
animated the eye during animation.
scaled the dolphin smaller to show more of it moving.

a very simple example on how you can make an animation much better just by doing a few extra things.

here the video:

http://www.zippyvideos.com/3862162224555306/dolphin/

the quality of the video is kinda shabby (Not sure why I used "best" quality, I don't normally use mov I use avi)

You'll get the idea though.

I've e-mailed you the edited moho file, I don't have time to host it right now.

No problem p6r.

Just remember that when you're doing things that are more organic, esspecially with things like fish that are very bendable. You want to use more bones.

I even use more bones on human type animations in the spine because the spine is made up of a bunch of tiny bones linked together that allow the curved postures.

even if you don't know how the bones are in a creature, but you know how it moves, such as a lobster's tail that has no bones at all (More like an exo-skeleton). we know the tail should contain more bones because of the way it can curl underneath the animal.

This WILL be more complicated when you get into bone constraints and things like that and will definately take you a bit more time. But the end result will be well worth your effort and you'll be more pleased with the result.

I used the "bind point" method for the mouth. This is a time tested solution for specifying what points should be controlled with the bone. It allows a more specific way of controlling your animation. this method also works well if you're using bones to animate eyes because a single bone can control both eyes.

I hope I was helpful. Good luck with your moho experience, it truly is a facinating program.
