I have exported an image as a .png file from TVPaint in many different ways with the intention of importing it into Moho 13.5.1 so that transparency is preserved, so I see my drawing, including any semi-transparent pixels, but not the rest of the background. (My TVPaint exports have been varying background in TVPaint workspace = present, none or check (= checkboard); and Background in the export (ticked or not); and mode RGBA or RGB in the export.)

The issue is that when a file opens correctly in Sketchbook or Apple Preview with no grey fringing and with transparency, there is a small amount of grey fringing (I assume from semi-transparent pixels that have been altered in some way) when that same file is brought into Moho (File > Import > Image).

I realise that there are some - but not necessary many - forum members who work with both Moho and TVPaint, and the solution may lie in either Moho or TVPaint (or both).

If anyone is able to provide a solution (or even a work-around) of how they manage to do this without grey fringing, I'd be very grateful. (If that description can be very specific in settings and steps, I'd be even more grateful, because it feels like I've tried everything).

This reminds me of something that happened to me with a Photoshop drawing. The blur tool had introduced semi-transparent pixels into my drawing. Some of these transparent pixels were almost invisible, but would appear against a black background. This is how I got rid of them. I "selected" all the visible colors of the artwork, then I activated "select inverse", then I pressed Delete. Delete got rid of everything that wasn't originally selected as artwork, so all the bothersome pixels were deleted. I think you could do something similar in TVPaint.

I have TVP but only as a trial - so cant save anything.

Might be worth you uploading a sample PNG - so we can test / see how it is on our systems.

I am including a link to a png file that has arrows to where grey bits occur in Moho, but not other software. It was created in this way: image export from TVPaint with png rgba no pre-mult brackground off.

Here's a Moho Ctrl-R render of the image from my system...



This is where it really matters, so if the fringe isn't visible in final render, I wouldn't worry about it. The workspace display is meant to serve as a quick preview of the final render so it's not always accurate. To see full final quality, you need to render the frame/animation using Ctrl-R, Export Animation, or Moho Exporter.

But if it's critical to not see the fringe in your workspace preview, try disabling GPU Acceleration in the Display Quality settings in the bottom right corner. This should remove the fringe as shown here...



Hope this helps. Let me know if you're seeing the fringe in a rendered image because that shouldn't be happening.

yeah - I'm not seeing anything untoward here either -- importing that image into Moho here (13.5.1 win10) doesn't seem to show any unwanted fringes / grey bits ...

as Greenlaw said: are you seeing this effect on render or just in the workspace? (if just the latter: turn GPU off?!)

I tested 13.5.1 too.

To be sure, right now I tried this in 12.5 and see the same 'fringeless' result.

As Greenlaw says - and I hadn't realised - it was just the workspace that was showing the unexpected 'grey fringe' results. Turning off GPU acceleration (which I have now done) means that the import now shows correctly in the workspace as well.
