HI there,
I noticed in the recent webinar on lip syncing, the person giving the webinar had an arced bone label for each phoneme on the smart bone dial he had created for them. Is there a script for creating custom bone labels? It looked like a neat way to rig a mouth for lip syncing.

If you're talking about this one:

Looks like he's just using very small bones for their labels.
If you set the bone length to like 0.0001 it will be zero, but not convert into a pin bone.
Then you can use the bone label as a UI indicator.

When I use a Smart Bone to change mouth shapes for lip-sync animation, I like to have it control an additional switch layer that changes a Note or Text layers that describes the mouth shape (the text is basically the same as the drawing layer's name.)
Personally, I like using Note layers because they're small, and display cleaner and more quickly than Text layers. If you use Note layers, you will probably want to check on Enable Note Layer Scaling in Preferences so the text doesn't get obnoxiously large as you zoom out. (Disabling this option can be useful in certain situations but I pretty much keep it on all the time.)
Hope this helps.
Note: BTW, I don't even bother with making SBDs for mouth shapes anymore. It's easier to set up and use the Switch Selection window, plus I discovered some disadvantages when using an SBD to animate mouth shapes for lip-sync animation that I don't have when using the Switch Selection window.
