Batch exporter running out of memory

My iMac has 16 GB of RAM, but that doesn't seem to be sufficient for the job right now. I've got 3 files (actually the same file but with different camera moves) which are quite small because they only contain imported bitmaps - that's easy. But there's a quicktime video of 3000 x 3100 pixels, only 25 frames long, which appears 12x in the frame, and this causes trouble:
- putting all 3 files into the batch exporter causes it to crash at the 2nd file rendered about 90% (I hate that). Mac asserts the batch explorer needs 64 GB of memory (what)?
- putting only one file in works, but putting the 2nd in crashes again. Same error message.
The only thing that seems to work is to re-start the exporter after each file. The resulting file is 17 sec long and takes 1,25 GB in Apple ProRes.
Looks like a memory purge issue to me?
(Also I have the impression that the exporter stalls when the screen goes to sleep, but this has to be verified yet.)
