Maybe you have a tutorial which explains how to animate walk from back?

That's an excellent tutorial, but I wanted to apply similar techniques to that of a character "walking in place". I wanted to do this so that:

1. I can control the left/right movement with the main timeline (from the "walking" action)

2. I can scroll the scenery whilst having the character step in place

If I try any kind of bone-locking on the feet, the effects look very silly. The leg that I've locked no longer swings.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for your appreciation. Just try to lock the main bone (attached to the belly part of the body), not the leg bones.
If I have time, I will try to post another tutorial on this.
