Position Control bone Inverted transforms

I linked the eye bone on my character to a bone away from the face through a position constraint. When I move the control bone, the eye moves in an inverted manner, i.e up equals down and left equals right.
How do I fix this?

Not sure why, but one fix would be to use negative values in the position constraint. i.e. -100%

If you ended up rotating one of the parent bones to the eyes 180°, that would cause the inverted controls.
