When exposing or showing a layer comp, it ticks visibility for the upmost parents of layer comp.

When hiding a layer comp, instead of simply unticking visibility for the upper most group, which would be enough, it leaves that one on, and instead, unticks visibility for each and every layer at all levels within that group, which is quite frustrating tbh.

I'm going to stay away from layer comps until I figure out what the logic is here.

You could expose a layer comp that shows some of those previously hidden. Doing so in a group that's only hidden at the group level wouldn't only expose the chosen comp.

You may be right. I gotta get used to it.

I select the Layer Comp I want to see and activate it. This automatically hides all the other layers not included in the Layer Comp.

To activate a layer comp, just right-click on the Layer Comp and select Expose Visibility. Alternatively, select the layer comp and click the eyeballs button at the bottom.

Layer Comps in Moho is a super powerful tool, and very easy to use too.

To use Layer Comps, there are two buttons you will use most of the time. They are Update and Expose Visibility.

I start by creating a Master layer comp by exposing all the layers I want to see in this layer comp. This could include all layers, but not necessarily so. It's just a 'default' visibility state for the project.

Then I create my next layer comp based on the Master layer comp. I hide the groups and layers I don't want to see and then click Update.

Now I have two layer comps: the Master layer comp, and a subset layer comp. To make a layer comp active, select the layer comp you want to see and click the Expose Visibility button (the eyeballs) at the bottom.

From there, I might create new sub-set layer comps based on the Master or another subset, whichever will be easier to create the new subset from. Remember to update the active layer comp when you're finished editing it. To do this, click the Update button (the circling arrow) at the bottom.

I use Layer Comps for different reasons throughout the production process, but most commonly, I use them to generate render passes for compositing. (Moho Exporter can automatically break out and render the passes for me.)

Sometimes, I create a layer comp to single out an element so I can focus on drawing, rigging, or animating it. During animation, I might use a layer comp to optimize performance by hiding the groups/layers I don't need to see (backgrounds, effects, other characters, etc.)

Thanks Greenlaw. That's more or less how I've gotten to use layer comps now.

I have a layer comp called "Full" with everything, and which I keep updating.

Then I have different subsets.

And I also have a "None" layer comp, which I expose when I need to turn off everything.
That's to replace the "hide layer comp" feature, which is to stay away from, unless for a strange reason you wish to turn off each and every layer in a layer comp.

But overall it's pretty helpful.
