How Do I get an object to follow a path?

Post by NanotechBeasts »

I am trying to get my files to follow a path but I have had zero luck on this task with the exception of a modified template/example file. I don't know what I am doing wrong.

Here is the file. The snake tail is suppose to follow the grove. It's a real simple scene and I could easily use a work around if needed, but I am trying to learn how to do this for other scenes.

Also I know how to follow a path once its connected, as shown below. I just can't connect it for the life of me. Also fair warning this clip from an 18 and older series and has an upside down pentagram. If you are wondering why I would do that its because the characters are living in a dystopia. If you don't mind a spoiler for how it ends read below. My friends deserve to know I haven't fallen off the deep end.

SPOILER: It ends with them finding God despite satanic influences. Many supernatural shows right now are going with the trope God is Evil and Satan is misunderstood so my series did the opposite.

Hiya.

problem #1: you have the Path and Tail layers both set to FollowPath using the path in Path -- clearing the Follow in Path makes things work (done)
problem #2: follow path moves the layer origin along the path, so that needs to be reset so that the Tail's head is on the path (done)
problem #3: looks to me as though you can't get a group layer to follow path and bend. so you'll need to make manual adjustments using bones. and the Tail rig you have needs to change to do that (very badly half started to give you the idea)

this uses bones: https://www.mediafire.com/file/ybpo7fho ... .moho/file

but IMO a curver without Follow Path will probably be easier... as here: https://www.mediafire.com/file/up1a54f0 ... .moho/file

hope that gets you going..

I am not home yet to test the files but is there some way to view path connections manually?

I know there is the shortcut, click path icon alt left click the path but it never seems to work. It feels like I am doing invisible guess work. I could have never figured out what files are connected to what.

I was able to open your files once I got home and can happily say the paths make a lot more sense now, so thank you so much!!! : )

I change the snake to a mesh because I at least have moho 12 now; (special thanks to SimplSam too!)

This is the updated new scene. https://youtu.be/YObNmSatGys

I'll give my new found understanding of paths a try in a few of my other files soon and see what happens.
