Easy Eyes

I have seen a lot of videos on youtube where people use like 5 bones in order to control the eye movement but it can be simplified by only using 1 bone. Just attach a single bone to the iris/pupils and to the control point and your good. I'm sure others have already done this but I thought I would share. Mostly for newbies. Made in Moho 12.5 Pro.

I agree. I typically use a single bone to move an eye. This is easier to set up and animate. Using a complex Smart Bone Action to basically move an eye never made sense to me.

I think Smart Bones are better used for blinking and changing the shape of the eye.

To clarify, I use a single bone to move a single pupil. Each eye has its own pupil bone.

I used to have a shared parent bone for the two pupil bones so I could optionally move both pupils together, but I stopped doing this a long time ago. In practice, I rarely wanted to move both pupils exactly the same distance because that looked weird. Plus, it's really no big deal to animate two pupil bones.

I have both pupils on the same bone which I translate (step interpolation). Changing the pupils' distance is done by point animation and included in my head turn smart bone action.

You're welcome!

I haven't been on here much for some time now but I'm back at using Moho more again and enjoying it. :D
