Ever since traditional 2D animation moved into the digital realm, further influence on 3D was perhaps inevitable.
This addon comes from a guy who made some excellent animations with Blender's Grease Pencil, so this kind of approach isn't much of a surprise to me, but it sure looks great as an option.
