Round caps don't display with effects on stroke?

Teeny weeny itsy bitzy issue. Not a deal breaker. Just curious if this is a new thing or it's been around a while and I only just noticed it.
if you have a stroke shape with round caps and apply any effect, the round caps stop displaying while editing.
The strokes render perfectly! This is why not a big problem.
The tiny issue is not being able to see the end caps of the stroke while editing for lining things up. I like using variable-width strokes with round caps as "round joints" for the end of limbs. I can make complex limbs quick and easy using strokes.
workarounds:
1. Draw non-filled vector circles that match the width of the stroke at the ends as a placeholder to see where the end caps would be for alignment with other objects.
2. Use a perfectly smooth custom round brush for the stroke. This is also problematic since effects won't display on brushes. Of course, they render fine.
