Fake 3D Boolean (Combine) operations using Masks! (+ Moho File)

Hi everyone,
I managed to create a 3D "Combine" (Boolean) effect entirely within Moho!
By creatively using masks on 3D layers, I was able to merge and cut out shapes seamlessly.
I’ve attached a GIF to show it in action. I'm also sharing the actual .moho file so you can download it and reverse-engineer the setup yourself.

It’s a great workaround to build more complex 3D props without leaving Moho.
Has anyone else experimented with this masking approach for 3D? Let me know what you think!

Hi Takuya.
Great work thanks! Just out of curiosity I downloaded your file and had a quick play. Just wondering
when I select layer 3 and turn off its visibility it doesn't seem to make any difference at all? Is this
normal?
Cheers
D.K

Yes, interesting technique.

It makes a difference after frame ~20, as it masks/hides the left-lower edge of the upper square. You will also need to preview to see the diff.

Thanks SimpleSam.
It's really exciting to see any developments in Moho 3D,

Hi D.K and SimplSam!
Sorry for the late reply. We had crazy heavy rain here in Chiba yesterday, so I was busy stacking sandbags at my warehouse door to stop the water!
SimplSam, thank you so much for jumping in and answering D.K's question for me. Yes, exactly! You need to hit preview/render to see the masking effect properly on that layer.
D.K, thanks for downloading and playing with the file. I'm really happy to hear that you are excited about new Moho 3D developments. That gives me a lot of motivation!
Cheers,
Takuya

Hi takuya
I have experimented with a similar concept here:

Hi D.K and SimplSam,
D.K, I just watched your "Mohpose V1" video! Controlling a 3D skeleton using smart bones is such a brilliant way to tackle 3D posing in Moho. It’s absolutely amazing.
And SimplSam, I am actually a huge fan of your work! I have known about your BVH Import script for a long time. In fact, a few years ago, I even made a video praising how amazing your script is when testing it in Moho 13.5:
https://youtu.be/SBwKuICz1z4
Your script was a huge inspiration for me. Because of it, I decided to keep pushing the boundaries of Moho's 3D space.
I recently built my own system that imports 3D MoCap data (like CMU's BVH files) and automatically translates it into 2D Moho bones and IK setups.
Here is a video showing how it maps the 3D skeleton data onto a 2D character:

I actually put together a free kit that includes a "3D.csv" sample motion file. If you guys are ever curious, you can download it and play around with the data workflow yourself!
It’s incredibly inspiring to realize the people helping me out here in the forum are the exact same developers who have been pioneering these 3D workflows. Thank you both!
Cheers,
Takuya
