Layer indicator for object properties and effects

I was just thinking... It'd be nice to have icons next to each layer that show whether or not certain animatable properties are on (like the one that's there right now for visibility).
For example I had a character with many layers, and while experimenting I turned on motion blur on one of them. Then I couldn't remember which layer it was on. I found it, but it wasn't immediately obvious.
These icons might also be used to keyframe on/off properties for a layer. And maybe users could choose which ones they'd like to display so it doesn't get too cluttered.
