Hi people,

I'm wanting to create an animation where there are several layers

e.g House exterior / room in house / another room

I want the camera to pass from outside layer and into the room layer behind. I have altered the Z value of the layers so that they are of appropriate depths, but I can't get the camera to pan in past the layers alternately... it will zoom in on the first layer but not through it as I'd hoped.

I realise I could turn the layers transparent at the appropriate time during a camera zoom... but I was hoping for a method I'm less likely to balls up.

Have you looked at the animation from different views?

Make sure you aren't just "zooming" the camera. You must translate the camera or the layer on the z axis so it goes past the camera.

Zooming just... gets you closer and closer and closer... you can't go through walls by zooming... otherwise... those binoculars in my closet would be very dangerous.



If you view from the left or right or above... you can see if the layer is really outside the camera view... or past it... or whatever.

Yaeh, what he said. To be more specific, don't use the Zoom Camera tool, you want to use the Track Camera tool, which is the leftmost tool in the camera section of the tools pallette. If you hold down the <ALT> key, hold down the left button on the mouse, and move the mouse up and down on the screen you'll move forward and backward in space. That's the one you want. Also, you can just go to the appropriate frame and enter the Z distance you want in the text box at the top while using that tool if you know exactly where you want the camera to be.

I didn't know there was a key command for the z axis! I always typed in the darn number...
