Creating/Editing Dialog

Given AS can only import a single soundtrack, I'm curious about creating dialog between two or more characters.
I import individual clips of dialog to create the lipsynching (nothing fancy, just using AS's built in switch layer capabilities as opposed to an external and manual lipsynching application). The key frames for that snippet are then added to the time line, but they may not be in the spot I wish.
Plus, adding a sound track to a switch layer now adds that snippet as the main animation's soundtrack. (Which Moho didn't do, I think...)
So what tips & techniques are there for sound/animation workflow?
