Display correct switch layer

I'm still buildng the overall character, and am now working on mouths. I have a switch layer with two mouth shapes in it. I have the closed or at rest shape at the bottom of the layer. When I select any other layer, it displays the top switch layer, not the bottom one. I tried re-arranging the order in the layer manager, but when ever I select anything else it reverts to the open mouth shape. regardless of it's layering order. No real problem, but inconvienent. Is there something I'm doing incorrectly or missing a preference somewhere?

You should use the switch layer itself to switch, not its sublayers. In the Timeline simply go to the frame you want your key in and in Layers right-click the switch layer. This pops up a contextual menu and select the correct sublayer (mouth shape) in that menu.

Switch layers are easy and practical to use. You can use vector layers, bones, or groups - it doesn't matter, the technique still works.

It makes no difference to the order of the stack, jus tthe naming - if you use Papagayo, you must get the names and capitalisation right or the layer will not display. That's the only rules.

Here's the check list.
  • Create your switch layer.
  • put two vector layers/bones layers or Group layers inside the switch group. Call the layers A and B.
  • Go to frame 1, then right click on the switch layer: you'll see a drop down menu showing the A and B layers. Left click on A to select it.
  • Now move to the frame you want to B layer to displayt. Right click on the switch layer again and select the B layer.
Done and dusted - that's all you have to do. Now play it.

Enjoy.

I wasn't necessarily asking how to do lipsynching with switch layers, I was merely asking how to make a specific switch layer active. I'm building my scene, still at frame 0, and wantd one of the specific mouth shapes as my default resting mouth shape. The right click on the switch layer in the layer manager as what I needed. Thanx...
