Rasheed also posted
a technique using line width.
1. Draw your writing as vector curves.
2. Reduce the width of all points to 0 (use Line Width tool).
3. Increase the width of points one at a time to reveal writing.
(You may need to take care with keyframes so that all points do not start increasing in width from frame 0 onwards).
