We're working on releasing the Linux version. As for the upgrade special, I will make sure to have a seperate promotion program with other deadline dates, so please don't worry about the September 30 deadline for the Linux version.
Thanks,
Fahim

I got an invite via PM for beta-testing Linux a while ago, but because I don't use i386 Linux as my main OS, I didn't answer to that invite. Perhaps if you contact Fahim from e frontier you can offer your services as a beta tester, and speed up the release of AS for Linux.

Bump?
Any news on this? The only mentions of Linux version seem to be months ago. What's the situation?

There are a couple issues that have affected the delay:
* e frontier does not currently have any other Linux products, so it's taking them a while to ramp up. They need to be able to do some testing, plus be able to answer Linux-specific tech support questions. (You'd be surprised how many Linux users don't know what to do with a .zip file. I've found that not all Linux users are computer experts.)
* e frontier has also been really busy with the launch of Poser 7. Poser is kind of their flagship product, so getting the new version out has been a priority, and has probably meant that getting up to speed on Linux has taken a back seat.
I think selling a commercial product for Linux is kind of a new idea for a lot of retail software makers. It used to be that covering "all platforms" meant Windows and Mac. I applaud e frontier for trying something new. It's too bad he Linux version has been delayed, but we'll get there.

And before that, covering "all platforms" meant the Apple IIe, the Atari 800XL/1300XE, the Commodore 64. and if they were
lucky, the TI-99/4a.

So it's been done before.

Okay - good to know it's still in the pipeline. I appreciate that it is a rather large paradigm shift, especially when it comes to installers. If any more testers are required, I'd be happy to help out.

Yes, I also would like to test a linux version of Anime Studio and already offered this via eMail long time ago ...no reply yet. I really hope there will be a Version for linux in future ...Moho worked and stil works nice! So where is the difficulty with those few new functions?

Yay, animate your red pixel to next pixel. Watch it move around the screen. Change colour from red to blue. Draw a monkey, watch it swing from red dot to red dot. Awesome.

I wasn't talking specifically about animation, but I'll have you know I did in fact do some character animation in Movie Maker, which was available on both the Commodore 64 and the Atari 800XL. I could post one of those in the "other software" thread, perhaps...
